Reickel Mail Cycle: February 2024!
Hello everyone and welcome through this month's twist through the Reickel Mail Cycle. Our first time ever being spun out around the Substack, hopefully all goes well! It’s possible the contact list imported from TinyLetter won’t be accepted… fast enough? It says it’s under review—whatever that means! I presume many will not receive this month’s in your email, sorry! I’ll direct everyone to the spot in March :)
Those pets are so great. Rough month for my hitting the likeness on the black cats though, sigh. Black cats are tough to draw with sketchy pen! Which seems like as good an opportunity as any to [re]iterate the Reickel Mail Cycle favorite pen(s):
uniball Vision Elite (0.5mm black)
Sakura Gelly Roll 10 (1.0mm white)
I use lots of pens, but the uVE has been my go-to for nearing two decades. And the Gelly Roll has been a known classic in (comic) art circles for a long time too, but I feel like I only ever here about the 08 size. I know I don’t work with lines as fine as many pen-and-ink artists but I get so much better flow and coverage out of the Gelly Roll 10 — give it a shot if you want to try out a very solid whiteout pen.
All this month’s entries into drinkbook were by the ol’ uVE. Drinkbook has been accidentally submerged in liquid more than once, so, it’s an ongoing testament to the ink of my favorite pen!
Art projects this month have mostly been personal and/or secret-y stuff, and maybe the below falls into that category. I’m writing and drawing a page (or two) of a fan recreation of Love and Rockets #1, and here’s most of what I’ve finished (cropped and reshuffled for this column presentation):
That comic project is ongoing. Theoretically so is Unclaimed, and The Fab Harry, and Adventuring with Thor, and Oliver F—ing Twist. Realistically, I’m having fun with you all every month here doing silly stuff like this:
I hope you've had a great January! We've wheeled around the Reickel Mail Cycle yet again. As always, thank you so much for being a part of it, and if you’re reading this, then a double thank you for making it all the way through! You can always reach out to mail.cycle@reickel.com with any questions or concerns.
Stay safe and be kind; cheers, -Jack!
